A KKday eSIM alternative for Japan

Disclosure: ESIM KIMONO is our store. Competitor facts come from their own pages and public reviews, checked 13 October 2026, each linked.

Short answer: KKday's top-selling Japan unlimited eSIM is 4G only, says carriers "may restrict usage" without giving a number, and does not refund completed orders. ESIM KIMONO runs on KDDI 4G/5G, states its rule in numbers (a flat 10 Mbps, no daily data cap), refunds unused plans under package terms and has real humans on chat. If you want to read the rules before you pay, buy direct.

What happens when your trip changes, or your data slows at the worst moment?

You booked the Kyoto tea ceremony, the Shinkansen seats and the eSIM in one KKday cart. It felt tidy.

Then a typhoon pushes your flight back two days. Or picture the moment every traveler dreads, with any eSIM: a crowded station in Osaka, the map not loading while your family waits for you to say which exit. A stall that takes QR payment, and a page that spins. Photos you cannot post, and a friend you cannot reach.

In those moments you want three answers: what the speed rule actually is, whether you can get your money back for days you will not use, and who you can talk to right now. KKday's own listing answers the first two, and the answers are worth reading before checkout.

What does KKday's listing actually say?

We read KKday's top-selling Japan unlimited listing on 13 October 2026 (listing). In its own words and terms:

None of this is hidden. It is simply easy to miss when the eSIM is one line in a cart of tours and rail passes.

What does "Softbank / KDDI via China Mobile International" mean for you?

The listing names China Mobile International as the MVNO, the company that sells you the line, and SoftBank and KDDI as the Japanese networks it rides. You get Japanese towers through a foreign carrier's agreement, on 4G per the listing.

For maps and chat, 4G is usually enough. What you lose is a rule you can read: the network partner, the point where usage "may" be restricted and the support path all sit with companies you never deal with directly.

With us, there is one chain. KDDI runs the network, ESIM KIMONO sells the plan and answers the chat, and the rule is printed before you pay.

Where is KKday genuinely ahead?

When does a direct seller fit better?

You want the rule in numbers. "May restrict usage" can mean anything. Ours is a flat 10 Mbps on unlimited plans, all day, with no daily data cap. Fixed plans run at full network speed, then 384 kbps once the data is used, so messages and maps still load.

You want 5G where it exists. KKday's listing says 4G. Ours is KDDI 4G/5G.

Your trip might move. Unused ESIM KIMONO plans are refunded under package terms. KKday's completed orders are not.

You want to talk to the seller. Our chat and [email protected] are answered by real humans on the team that runs the store. A faulty eSIM is replaced 1 for 1.

You want to know how it is built. A GSMA standard eSIM profile on KDDI's licensed network, card payments on Stripe (PCI DSS Level 1), and a QR code by email in minutes, with no account and no app. The store is run by Fizen LLC; Fizen.io has 500,000+ app users and a strategic investment from Tether.

Who should still buy KKday?

Buy direct if the trip might move, if you want 5G for uploads, or if you want the slowdown rule in numbers before you pay.

Before you fly, whichever eSIM you choose

Install it on home Wi-Fi, keep the line once installed, and in Japan turn Data Roaming on for the travel line and set it as the data line. If it will not connect on arrival, our fix list works for any brand.
