How to Install Your Japan eSIM, Step by Step

Two minutes on home Wi-Fi and you land online. The exact taps, then the fix list if bars do not show.

Before you fly: two minutes on home Wi-Fi

Dial *#06#. No EID line means your phone has no eSIM and you should not buy one. See an EID: buy the plan, scan the QR from our email on Wi-Fi, stop there. Do not delete the eSIM afterward; a QR installs once.

On the plane

Nothing to do. Your days are not burning: each plan's clock starts at install or at first connection in Japan, and checkout says which before you pay.

When you land at Narita or Haneda

Three switches: kimono line ON, set it as Mobile Data, Data Roaming ON for that line only. Keep your home line's data off. Bars on KDDI 4G or 5G show within about a minute.

iPhone, exact taps

Settings, Cellular, Add eSIM, Use QR Code, scan. After landing: new line on, its Data Roaming on, Cellular Data set to it. Needs iPhone XS or newer, carrier-unlocked.

Android, exact taps

Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, Add eSIM. On a Samsung: Settings, Connections, SIM manager, Add eSIM. APN sets itself; if data stalls, message support and a human sends the right settings.

If it still does not connect

Airplane mode on for ten seconds, off. Confirm the data line and its roaming. Restart once. Still dark: both airports have free Wi-Fi, so message the chat on this page or [email protected] and a human walks you through it. A faulty eSIM is replaced one for one; an unused plan can be refunded under its package terms.

Straight answers

Can I install after landing instead?

Yes, on airport Wi-Fi, and it works. But arrivals after a long flight is the worst moment to read settings screens. Install at home; activate in Japan.

When do my days actually start?

Not at purchase. Each plan states its rule at checkout: either when you install it, or when it first connects to the network in Japan.

Do I need the QR code again after installing?

No. Once the eSIM is on the phone the QR's job is done. Keep the email anyway; it holds your order number and the support address.
