Tokyo eSIM

Disclosure: ESIM KIMONO is our store. Competitor facts come from their own pages and public reviews, checked 13 October 2026, each linked.

Short answer: A Tokyo eSIM has one job: work the minute you land at Narita or Haneda, and keep working from Shinjuku's exits to a day trip in Kamakura or Hakone. ESIM KIMONO runs on KDDI 4G/5G, a licensed Japanese carrier, prints its speed rule before you pay, and has real humans on chat if something fails. For a typical Tokyo week, 10GB / 7 days covers maps, trains and photos; unlimited suits nightly video calls.

What does a failed eSIM cost you in the arrivals hall?

Your flight lands at 8:40pm. Immigration, bags, customs, and then you are standing in arrivals with a suitcase. Keisei Skyliner or Narita Express? Which ticket machine? Which of Shinjuku Station's many exits is closest to your hotel? The check-in message is waiting in WhatsApp.

The eSIM says "No Service". Across the hall, there is a queue at the SIM counter, passports out.

Recent Japan-related 1-2★ Trustpilot reviews describe exactly this:

These are a small sample, and every one of those brands also has thousands of happy reviews (see our Trustpilot snapshot). Often the cause is setup: roaming off, or the wrong line set for data.

How does ESIM KIMONO handle the Tokyo arrival?

What we do not offer: a Japanese phone number. Our eSIMs are data only. If you need calls or SMS on a local number, see our Mobal comparison, which covers a provider that offers one.

Which plan fits a Tokyo week?

Your Tokyo tripSuggested plan
3-day stopover or weekend3GB / 3 days
7 days, light use, mostly hotel Wi-Fi5GB / 7 days
5-7 days of maps, trains and social media10GB / 7 days
7 days of creating content, nightly FaceTimeUnlimited 7 days
10-15 days, Tokyo plus day trips20GB / 15 days or unlimited 10 days
Laptop tethering for remote work20GB / 15 days (full network speed)

The speed rule, before you pay. Fixed plans run at full network speed. When the data is used, they slow to 384 kbps for the rest of the plan, so LINE messages and map directions still load. Unlimited is a flat 10 Mbps from the first minute, with no daily data cap, so nothing changes at 6pm in Shibuya. Hotspot is allowed on most plans, and each plan's rule is printed at checkout.

Where does the data go on a Tokyo week?

If you mainly message, navigate and post photos, you will be close to our site's guide of about 1GB a day, so 10GB / 7 days leaves a buffer. If day 2 sounds like every day for you, plus a long video call each evening, unlimited removes the guesswork.

When does Tokyo need data at the till?

More often than first-time visitors expect.
